Meet the Coaching Staff
Coach Jacobs is the new Dreadnaught head coach. He is beginning his 28th year coaching football. Prior to taking over the program, he spent the past two seasons at Siena Heights University coaching LB’s. From 2004-2014 he was the head coach at Adrian High School (his alma mater). He has also coached at Addison HS and Ypsilanti HS. Coach Jacobs earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in English and Physical Education. He earned his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Phil and his wife, Brandy, are currently in the process of moving to Dexter from Adrian. They have two children, Ryleigh (18) and Rhett (15).
Coach Mapes brings over 10 years of experience coaching and playing football. His coaching experience includes four years at Eastern Michigan University, working as a GA on the Offensive line and then the last year coaching wide receivers. Coach Mapes played linebacker at Adrian College, and was a four-year letter winner and captain for the Bulldogs. Steve and his wife, Kari, live in Dexter. They have two sons, Gavin (5) and Hudson (2). Offseason was spent coaching the Dexter Trolls - 2017 Tee-Ball Runners Up.
Coach Parachek is in his 5th year coaching football at Dexter. He was a varsity assistant for two years coaching receivers, then spent two years coaching at the 7th grade level. This year he will be coaching the running backs at the high school level. Matt graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Sports Medicine. While there he was a four-year letterman in football.. Matt and his wife, Whitney, have lived in Dexter for 20 years, and have three amazing children…Colin (13), Brennan (12) and Alison (10).
Coach Q has coached for 15 years, all at John Glenn High School, where he played and taught. He has coached on all levels of high school, and for the last 11 years I has been on the varsity staff, where he coached OL, DL, and LBs. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Eastern Michigan and his Master’s degree in Special education from Michigan Dearborn. He was recently married to his wife, Brittany.
Coach Schwartz was recently hired as a special education teacher at Dexter High School. He has coached football, baseball, and basketball for the past three years at Adrian High School. Coach Schwartz earned his degree from Siena Heights University where he also lettered in baseball. Rob and his wife, Nicole, currently live in Adrian and have a beautiful son, Anthony (3 months).
The 2017 season will mark Coach Verbal’s 7th year coaching for the Dexter Dreadnaughts. Coach Verbal is a former player and a 2007 graduate of Dexter High School. He spent 2 years as an assistant coach/defensive coordinator for the freshman team (2011 and 2015), 4 years as the JV defensive coordinator (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) and has coached wide receivers, linebackers, offensive and defensive lines. Coach Verbal graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in human biology in 2011 and enjoys boating, fishing, hunting and working out in his spare time.
Coach Whittaker will be joining the Dexter Staff this season as the varsity OL coach and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to his arrival in Dexter, Whittaker worked as the OL coach and Head JV/Freshman Coach at Kingston High School (NY) from 2010-14, Offensive Coordinator and QB's Coach at New Paltz High School (NY) 2014, and Head Coach at West Lee Middle School (NC) 2015-'16. Whittaker earned his Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2015. He earned his master’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Emporia State University (KS) in 2014, and bachelor’s in Physical Education from the New York State College at Brockport in 2010 where he also played Offensive Line for the Golden Eagle Football program under Head Coach Rocco Salomone. Whittaker currently teaches Physical Education in the Ypsilanti Community School District and Resides in Whitmore Lake with his girlfriend Katie Falk.
Coach Cislo lives in Dexter with his wife (Kendall), 2-year-old son (Clayton) and dog (Crazy). Cislo began his career with six years of teaching at Adrian Public Schools, where he also coached JV football, first as Assistant Coach and later as Head Coach, as well as JV and Varsity baseball. Cislo accepted a teaching position at Dexter High School in March 2016 and has served as the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach as well as 7th Grade Assistant Football Coach during this time at Dexter. He is looking forward to assisting the Dexter football program at the Varsity level. Cislo is a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan where he played baseball from 2005 to 2009.
